I was lucky enough to meet the band, Chris Stein quipped that I looked more like Deborah than Deborah! lol!Debbie was lovely and I've now got her champagne glass as a souvenir War Child is one of my favourites, I'd love to do it live but the rest of my band are taking some persuading! “Bye Calanor! Byyyyyyyye... [waves] Drat, he's gone already. Well Michelle, I'm about to see you live, err I mean the real thing, next week. Did you get a chance to see Blondie on their Livid tour back in 99? Saw them in Paris and they were terrific - particularly La Harry, who was very poised and laidback about the whole thing as if thinking "I'm really too old for this but my kids seem to like it, so -" Debbie Harry is The Princess of cool as far as I'm concerned. I always say she can turn trash into glamour and glamour into trash with equal ease. What do you think of The Hunter album? There seems to be a concensus that every true Blondie afficinoado should hate that album and I love it. War Child and For Your Eyes Only are two of my favorites. Not to mention the opening number Orchid Club who always gets my mind dirty.... Oh wait, I forgot: my mind is always dirty.”

First of all, let me congratulate your big and endless love and admiration for women, and as you must know, it s not the case for every fashion designer (I remember someone talking about John Galliano, I love his stuff for Dior on the catwalk because it s the greatest show on earth given by outrageous and outer space creatures. But let s face it: who s the girl who would really dream of be dressed like that? Well, apart me, I m still wondering ;-) So, back to you James. I love your naive and full of Love admiration for girls. Your eyes must be every girl s dream! Now about Kim, you see her as a real diva and it looks great on your collage but I don t think personnaly that Kim is a diva. I think she has always been that girl next door with a special mystery. I think she s as juicy as an aple dressed in her old tight jeans and her rock chick jackets, seems she took them in her father s attiK and it s a nice "family costumes" affair. I like her when she s simple and am less sensitivve to sophistication on her. She sometimes was close to vulgarity when trying to be sexy, so back to jean s is a good choice. Her leather look hurts me because she looks trapped in the leather like in a too tight cage and I would really dislike seeing our Love Blonde becoming ridiculous... “Hello in Kimmie Land, Enjoy yourself thouroughly, Alex, now that you`re a Kid in ... Oh well it was too easy, I couldn`t resist it. Last time I was in the USA was three years ago, it was in Vegas. I had to stop and drop something at the post office, and had just parked, when suddenly, "Kids" started to play on the radio, I just raised the volume til the post office clerks could hear the whole thing, and probably made a fool of myself. Now, did I care? Ask me next time! That very week, Stevie Nicks was performing (in Vegas), and Destiny`s Child was there too, the week after. Vegas is GREAAAT! Paradoxically, I think it is one of the most authentic cities in the world. It doesn`t pretend to be anything else than it actually is. A place "becoming", ever changing, with its craziness let loose, knowing no boundaries. For "authentic" in the classical sense, we have Paris, London (that`s where I am now), but the energy is not the same! Now will anyone have the patience to read this post all the way through? By the way, concerning the best looking bloke in a Kim video - haven't you learned anything from our Kimmy through the years? It is not how he looks, it's the way he is or how the love that betrays. Take that Mr. Heartache for instance, no where near Kim Wilde league and still he hurts her and makes her angry, luckily our girl fights back and show him the door. And I think the 4 guys i SYRWM gets the same threatment, she has her fun with them but in the end they all stand there looking after the sexy lady dancing down the street. All a dream I guess, for them. So I guess the no. 1 guy in a Kim vid must be the guy in "Cambodia", I mean he's in the airforce so he must have made a lot of money, she actually miss him I guess so he must have been nice and finally if he wasn't nice she won't see his face again....EVER!!! The melancolic sound, the harmonies and the lyrics are just a perfect combination. And I think if 'Close' has a touch of that, then we have the explanation for the big succes it was, compared to all the other Kim Wilde albums. It just reached a wider audience. And I remember doing the same when I was a kid. It's a nice feeling bringing back nice memories. And like you suddenly this chick came and changed it all. Suddenly ABBA wasn't there anymore (well always in our hearts and our radio) and she just took over. I even have a nice review from a Danish magazine where the reviewer writes something like "if you miss the sweetness and melody of ABBA's music, then 'Close' is a good substitute"."
I know not everyone will agree but I thought that it was a nice compliment to give to Miss Wilde. I mean it was ABBA he was referring to! My all time second favourite next to, well it's obviouos I guess... ”

Alisue/Alexandre, You seem quite meditative these days. I'm glad this site is allowing you to say it (almost?) all. I can relate at least to one thing: as a kid, I was a true loner myself, and I found excellent refuge/company in three things:music ABBA are my spiritual parents. Their lyrics, harmonies and voices just helped me transcend the s**t of everyday's business. Kim came later, as a bright and dynamic satellite in the wake of ABBA's Sun. Animals and I always had excellent relationships, (no need to talk I guess, and I wasn't good at that anyway), and my best bud was a german shepherd. I have his picture with me still. Third was books, and I used to read a lot of them. My best pals were "Les six compagnons" and ... they still live inside me let's say (Gosh soon I'll be hearing voices!). Then I turned 16 and things took a turn for the very worst (it still could yes, the Universe has a strange sense of humor), ... until life came back only recently, greening and flowering my slopes. I guess I'm catching up for (lost?) time) now, and I assure you: I ROCK, life rocks, music still rocks, my body and soul rock, and I sense they will for a long long time now. Hum, have I said too much? In one way, hell yeah! It's 10.30 pm and I'm waking up at 3 am.

This World Wilde Web connection has gone further than Kim s music now, isn t it? I sometimes wonder if she knows how brilliant fans she still has around (I m including all of us of course). Did she have a premonition when writing on her hits collection that her mission of Love continued? Maybe she unconsciously knew that no matter if a gay icon or not, no matter if a smash hit maker or not, but what an opened heart can do... Last Saturday I danced on "Dreams are my reality..." with a 50 or so years old spanish woman who was so, but so lovely. She held me strong and told me that I m beautiful and an artist and I asked her "aherm, where s your husband? Isn t he jealous?" and we laughed like 2 teenagers doing something forbidden. She touched my heart and soul too. And now, all the younger people who were on drugs, believe me they were ugly with false smiles. As I told you, I don t judge but tend to understand. Lets try an experiment; I'll wear it and you see if you can't kiss me properly! DEAL?
Kim always wore heaps of lippy during the RAK years - very bardot bee stung colours.”

I thought I was seeing a real life Patsy Stone. Stoned, he probably was, and he had dressed like Edina on her "the 70's are back, you know Sweety" days. A parody of himself. And the voice betrayed an abuse of just about everything. I really do hope he's the genius that magazines say that he is. Cause on a human level, he just doesn't rock my boat! Very different from Tom Ford, who came in a month ago. Very poised, a self-assurance that has you staggering, and such a good looking man. Anyway.

I swear, for those who don't know me, I don't usually go gossiping evil like that. It was just a hard day, I guess, and someone just has to pay for all the others.

BTW, Limahl is touring with Kim on here and now these days. Anyone remember him?

“Karina... Can you imagine what a thrill it is for me soon meeting the owner ot those burning lips? I ll be in NYC from the 26th of June to the 4th of July, I have JR s phone number and believe me I ll jump on my phoney as soon as I put my feet in town! Before our meeting, here s a story last time I went to New York in Sept '03 Karina: Ever heard of the Carlton Arms Hotel? A mixture of '70s PoP Warhol and the current mysticism reunited in a colourfull and motley decor. After 1 clubbey night I had to find a room as the room we had booked in another hotel had become too little for me, my room mate and our guests... After crossing a few streets we arrived for case at Carlton Arms, welcomed by a rainbowish Buddah downstairs, we were given the key to room n°5C, we went upstairs to the 5th floor and fell on diams written *5C* door, I put the key inside the lock and turned it to open the door, what I saw... A room full of Madonna pictures, all brightened up by 1000 and 1 different pearls! The bathroom was dedicated to Her Madgesty s breast, sometimes sweet, sometimes agressively JPG conical. I came back to Switzerland the day after and got to know she arrived in NYC on the night I was in bed surrounded by her, 2 streets away from the Carlton Arms to promote her "English Roses" book. New York is the craziest place of the world, anything is possible and there s a place for anyone able to find his/her it, it s an inspiring jungle! Karina, promise me you ll stop me from buying everything, shopping is compulsive to me! As for the Beastie Boys, you can tell JR they re making a concert 1 week before my venue, so he will avoid them ;-) Karina, let me virtually kiss your hand before reality celebrates our meeting. You re a Beauty Queen! ”

I got my pout pictures developed (have been really busy Pierre, I'm so sorry)
In one picture, I look like a dead hooker from America's Unsolved Murders, in the other I look like a litte girl who has got into mums makeup bag, in the third I look like a blow up doll with my mouth wide open and in the others I look like the joker! Alexandre is right, you really do need to think sexy thoughts before you take the picture, but it's a bit hard when you're in a hurry and have just written four computer programs...doesn't really set the mood does it? I remember it was a song I couldn t listen to doing something else when I was a child, I had to lay down and closed my eyes to see all those magnificient images the song put into my brain and heart, and as I ve been lucky enough staying connected with the little Alexandre (Dgé, je ne t oublie et je t aiiiiiiiiiiiimmme, pas comme Lara ou comme une star de cinéma, mais comme un homme peut en aimer un autre. Tu auras compris que pour être caught as you can catch me, il faut s armer de patience, un enfant disais je ;-)... Back to the song (I pushed the *repeat* button on the stereo to stay in the mood for it), the feelings and images have not changed at all, 22 years later and sure you can feel the sweetness of my inner child coming away on the select sound ;-) The song is like a road for me, a long, hypnotiK and madgestiK road that leads to some kind of Wilde mystery. I love it very much because it s an unconscious trip into Kim Wilde s universe, full of explosions, angel voices coming down to earth and... an electriK guitar sound that is 1 of my favourite melody of the genre. I m not into electriK guitars at all but here, impossible cancelling it, every sound and melody has it s meaning on the song as it s built like a castle, brick after brick, all different but with a result of a true Babylon Tower. Sure that my unconscious intuitions skill owes a lot to "Just A Feeling". Until today I have often been thinking about something to happen with that sentence in my head *... just a feeling...* and it s sometimes amazing to realize the conclusion of those feelings. Oh my dear Wilde lovers friends, 1 thing I forgot to tell you is that I m not on drugs right now ;-) I m just letting myself go on the road that leads to the *Just A Feeling* castle and I ll soon have to lay down again to enjoy it more. In the best cases, human beings are like good wine, improving with time and I really think we are all here shining examples of that fact of life. Our hearts don t beat forever but the way we act during our lifetime is eternal, look at the stars in the sky tonight... ”

Maybe as you said it was all a shrewd move by Kim to reassure her fans she wan't to become the next disco diva (like we thought she had a chance then...) I don't think it was an accident that the next single, It Of The Dreaded Suit, screamed (so loudly it was ridiculous) "See? We Rock And We're Tough! Frankie Says Give Us A Hit! (Please?)" “Time, Jerzy... What s strange about us human beings having our lifetime is that we see time passing by while time sees us human passing by, see the difference? About cool/uncool now, it is cool being the coolest thing on earth indeed, but it also means that sooner or later you can become the most uncool thing ever, that s trends and trends judge in a very uncool, sometimes cruel and often completely anarchist way. Look at The Face mag for example, they monthly decide what s "in" and "out" and the fun of the game consists in putting in the "out" category what was "in" the month before. Some people stay cool forever in the public eye but they have something special that goes beyond that game, they usually lead the game and are fashion and trends themselves. The secret about being cool is that you don t have to look for it, you ll always stay disappointed, it s "cool" that will come and pick you up once you are ready to be... About "Dancing In The Dark", I agree 100% with Marc. I also always liked the song and had that strange impression that Kim did not have the choice reporting she did not like to perform it: it s because of that very song most of her fans accused Kim turning her back to her roots, so, better thinking like your fans if you want to keep them! DespotiK fans you had dear Kim... It s clear now seeing her on Varietoscope that she enjoyed it very much and took it like fun. Without forgetting that '83 marked the entrance of the Wilde family into irony, look at "Love Blonde", it was just another pastiche of her blondiness and a cool move into a "not taking it all too seriously" mood. We all have secrets, and maybe 1 of Kim s secrets is that she always loved the song. She often acted that way in the media after a single that didn t do well, because she s proud. It s easier to say you don t like something or don t care about it that saying it actually hurts you because people seemed to misunderstood you, isn t it? When she first said in interviews about the lows of her career she was already about to leave it all behind. When she still wanted to to stay in, she avoided talking about those lows. She s human, that s why we love her. ”

“(look at me helping DITD go up in the charts) And you know what Pat ? What if RAK released "Shoot To Disable" as a single ?! Kim would have become instantly a 80's coldwave icon ! NME and Melody Maker would have loved it and considered Kim as a serious artist. Just like Kylie Minogue when she did that duet with Nick Cave. And MCA should have released "Shangri-La" as a single, and on the A Side. "The Touch" was such a disastrous choice !”

“I know, she said she didn't like the song. But on this appearance, she seemed to enjoy it. Maybe she made fun of it, didn't take it seriously. After all, who can when you have to sing "sweet romancing, something's gonna start"? Well, a few years later, she sang that splendid ridiculous line "it's cold in the streets, there's a cold in her nose". You're right, "Stay awhile" could've been a massive hit, though her band made a bad rendition of the song live. ”

Marc From Pigalle

“This song stands the test of time. Yes, it's a great song, similar to the songs Madonna recorded for her first album (and to my opinion, her best one). And Kim seemed to enjoy performing it, over and over and over and over. Nile Rodgers made a great job remixing it. I love the gimmicks, the male backing vocals, the sax.. The original version (or was it a cover ?) by Tony something (Sherman ?) was great too, very El Debarge-esque. ”

“Thanks for the links JR and Pierre. jerzy, you nailed it. After one listen I feel it's a nice piece of n'importe quoi, a pastiche of the RAK years that gets at least the spirit right. I might even start to like it after a few repeats. As jerzy pointed out, the fact that an indie rock artist would dare to pay hommage to Kim is a sign she's reached "cool" and is on her way to "icon" status. Ironic that Kim finally became "hip" in England when she stopped trying to be it. For years they dubbed her "as exotic as Coronation Street", trashed her hair, her looks, her music. So what does she do? Piles on the pounds, throw out the comb, grab a hoe and gets her fingernails dirty. Oh and throw in a comeback or two, complete with weight loss, just to show she can still do it. All of a sudden they realize no other artist ever had the guts to go that far and back. Now she can do just about anything and they will, finally, respect her. Not unlike Deborah Harry who can turn glamour into trash and trash into glamour without batting an eyelid. ”

“Indeed, Alisue, this song appears to be a way of paying tribute to Kim's contribution to music in the 80's. And it's great, because a few years ago it would have been so "un-cool" to record a song inspired by Kim Wilde. Now something must have changed in the perception of Ms Wilde's music (that used to be generally bashed by most critics) if it is considered OK to affirm Kim's talent. And about time, too! ”

Where it all began, even if not over soon after... Kim? Charlotte? Lisa? Karina? Come on girls, you believe in Love? 'Cause I ve got something to say about it, and it goes something like this... “Last but not least before my KWTV break: imagine there s no Heaven, it s easy if you try. No Hell bellow us, above us only sky. Imagine all the people, living for today... Imagine there s no coutries, it is not hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too. Imagine all the people living life in Peace. You may say I m a dreamer, but I m not the only one, I hope someday you ll join us, and the world will be as one. Imagine no possession, I wonder if you can... Let me send you back all my Love and Peace in your hearts. LoveAlexXxandre”

“Thanks Alisue. Haven't heard the Bjork song but I will trust you on it. I intend to see the Almodovar some days. I like his work in general, even though I'm not what you would call an unconditional fan. Funny that we almost ended up watching the same movie last night - it's not like it was on TV (or was it? I had a tape.)”

“Pat, I m currently working on a project for my favourite fashion designer and the introduction subject is "Why Do Artists Remain Children?" and I fell on an interesting Björk book with pictures of her where she does not look more than a 5 years old little girl, amazing really... Almodóvar gave an efficient answer in his last movie and showed where passion can begin. In the name of "Child Come Away" I dedicate Björk s "It s Not Up To You" to you today. May the sun shine on us forever!”

“Hey Pat La Canaille! I had to watch "Lost In Transaltion" yesterday night in my friend s bar but changed my mind to stay with my baby... Gonna watch it anyway this week and give you my review. Been watching this crapy and pollution Jean Luc From The Street TV show called "Jour après Jour" with the fabulous Frigide Barjot (and husband De Koch) as guests. The subject was "Introducing my parents into my gay life", very voyeur for a change and another drag queen overdose... And then this Jean Luc, with his "premier de classe" attitudes is 1 of the most homophobiK TV man I ever saw on French channels. Anyway there was a lesbian DJette into electro who was working hard to get into the parisian creamy scene, not bad at all the girl, just a little too agressive but anyway, agressivity allows some people to fly... She was filmed in her musical "laboratory" and all of a sudden I jumped on the sofa "Hey, she s got Kim Wilde s "Kids In AmeriKa" single!" while my boy jumped on the sofa "Hey, she s got The Streets album!", we looked at each other and had a good laugh about our large large large horizons ;-) A detail I know, but very funny! Enjoy your day everbody! SwitzerlanZ is under the rain again :-(”

“Talking of cover versions, I watched Lost In Translation last night - Alisue or Lisa may have mentioned this before, but in case they didn't: there's a scene where a bimbo starlet (obviously inspired by Cameron Diaz) butchers "Nobody Does It Better", which in that case should be retitled "Nobody Does It Worse." No doubt about it Kim, you're the best!”
