“Well, guys, I've had so much pleasure reading Steve's review of last week-end Wilde's party, and as it's quite respectful to the family's privacy, I take the responsibility of including it as a bonus chapter of Steve's autobiography, just to be sure that it won't slip away into the messages archive. It happens that the story deals with Kim, so it's always of major interest for this website, but while reading it, I realised that Steve's style would even manage to transform a shopping session at Harrod's into a lively, exciting account. Am I getting addicted? I think I am. What about you?”

“Hey Guys,
I'm back home now.I was a VERY NAUGHTY BOY yesterday at Kims party, but I think I got away with it!
I had a few hours sleep in my car and drove home as the sun rised.
I can confirm that the handbook for my new coupe doesn't lie when it says do not drive this car at speeds over 205 miles per hour.(thats quite quick in kilometres per hour)
I supposedly passed 100 or so speed cameras, but of course my car was stolen by a lunatic last night and I have 50 people who will say that I spent the night with them.
I will do a full report on Kims party soon for all of you KWTV viewers but,I am now off to Carnival in Notting Hill with a lovely redhead backing singer (girl) from ABC who I met last night.
My old mate who is the computer programmer for U2 lives in Portobello Road and it would be rude for me to decline his kind offer of his house for the day/night.
Kims party ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!
I will tell you all about it when I have had a few hours sleep.”

“Some sad news: Laura Branigan, 47, passed away of a brain aneurism. Big hits in the 80s (Gloria, Self Control, The Lucky One, Spanish Eddie) some great soundtracks participations (Imagination, from Flashdance) terrific cover versions (Forever Young, Dim All The Lights) and a voice that could cut through your spine. Her carreer took a slump after she played in not pollitically correct Sun City in South Africa. Several comeback attempts fizzled (Moonlight On Water) but Branigan continued to impress with her voice and took on the difficult role of Janis Joplin in a musical play about the singer. Fearing for her vocal chords, which she didn't spare in the part (her version of 'Me & Bobby McGee', once available online, sounds like the real thing) she quit the show prematuraly. Since the death of her husband ten years ago, Branigan lived alone. Lately she had been recording material for an album. RIP. sigh...”

Regarding thinking that any message you may send would be not good enough.I will let you into a secret.
Everything I have ever composed, written, done or whatever situation I have been in.I have felt was "not good enough".If you even have that idea it means that you are a sane, thinking and feeling person.
Let yourself be free to do what your intuition tells you. After al, what is the worst that could happen?
Get outside of this mindset as it will limit you.Throw ideas at the Cosmos, trust that people will just take them on board or reject them.Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things?I have found that I have suffered terrible pain in worrying about what other people will think or say about my ideas.
You know what? Most of the time they don't even think twice and I have put myself through totally uneeded pain.
Do what you think is right in the moment, and if you made a mistake,so what,we're only human,of flesh and blood we're made.
If somebody disses you for that, maybe they are not the kind of person that YOU need in your life and don't you worry bout' a thing.”

Thanks for the advice. We were just emptying the contents of the Mac onto a 250 gig Lacie drive and one audio file was corrupted. This kept stopping the save so the guy did it bit by bit around this file.It could not be deleted either.I never put my studio Mac online so it was not a virus.Except my "mates " who give me free effects etc.(thats what it probably was)So I left the techie to finish as it was quite boring .When I got back he said all done.I had a quick check to look at some Logic 6 arrangements and as he had upgraded me to Mac OSX I was unfamiliar with the layout.
I told him I coildn't find any of my midi files and he said its all there.
I showed him it wasn't true and he said where did you keep the files.I said it defaults to the Logic 6 folder and he went very quiet.
He said I wiped that as I was giving you a free upgrade. He lost all of this years work, two albums worth and some ads I have to deliver next week.
Then I said at least I have my Reason files for the bass and drums. These had been converted to Unix. files by the drive as it had dual format. It has to be Mac only format.
So these two errors have cost me a lot.He is working on a conversion but its a holiday here for 3 days so he can't get support.
The first rule is back up,the second rule is back up.
I have never done this as Macs are so stable, but guess what,I've just bought 200 disc's and from now on I will.”

My oldest friend who was born across the street from me in Sheffield,is now a vilified professor of languages who lives in Menorca ,my second home.He has driven from Barcelona to Dover, then up through England to his ancestral home of Scotland, and then back again. He is several years older than me and he typifies the "wanderlust"the urge to travel of my era.
I see myself as Steve Mcqeen ,in a sixties movie, driving with a beautiful woman by my side, free as the wind and ready for anything.
I will do it, as we have all done the big sleep for eternity before our birth. The only truth we know is that we shall do it again in a few scant years. So why not celebrate and enjoy these few precious moments that we are gifted with?
I LOVE the music of Rhodopa Mountain.(sorry if the spelling is wrong,my studio and my office are on different floors)
I had a bad day with the Apple Mac.I went for a sandwich at lunchtime and he erased all of this years files.
At least I still have the audio samples, but I have lost all of my arrangements, including all of yours and Pierres contributions.
Its my fault for not having backed up the files, and also for going to the pub for a sandwich and a pint, when he was doing the crucial work.

I just love this site now. Pierre warned me that as a virgin with no experience I could put in my fingertip and have my arm taken off. I know what he means and I am hooked!
I forgot to mention to the lovely Michelle when I praised her band that my mate Geoff Dugmore played drums and produced Debbie Harry's solo stuff and toured with her. He says she is the nicest person in pop/rock,whatever this stuff is that we all enthuse about.
Geoff was the drummer I picked for Kim to play on the Michael Jackson BAD Tour in 88' or whenever it was (Pierre will know) [correct-PM]. Geoff is now rated in the top three for worldwide recording session players and is one of the nicest, talented and funniest men you you could ever wish to meet.”

“Massimo the Macho Macho Man! Thank you Mr Maximum, I started well my 33th year of this life, seems I was meant to be born this year! Where I sometimes never wanted to become an adult, I m slowly understanding that you can become 1 keeping the fun for you. It s not necessary a boring thing to grow also for what can frighten you for some reason. So I m glad, and for the first time of my life, I m building something on my own in a very creative way, collecting the subjects I need to achieve it, putting them together to make them coherent and watching the shapes of it taking their final forms makes me proud and realising it s worth making the things on your own when you have a precise idea of what you want. I see my project taking birth, I started with the skeleton and now the skin and muscles are developing and I can work it out just the way I intend it to, it s massive and complete. Until today, everything I ve been involved and interested in was always linked to something I was involved and interested in before. So, maybe the AliSue character helped me working it out. Some people have hepled me a lot ('jour Gé!) and when I think of it, when I was a child, fascinated by Kim s songs and voice, hair and pout, legs and hips, I knew that Love I felt for her hadn t happened for free, I knew it meant something big for me. My mum understood it too and was never complaining about Kim s posters in my room, but Nena s ;-) She said it made her sick seeing Nena s smile everyday, but she always loved Kim. Now, at 32, when I go back to my mum s place, where I grew up, I can see some "rests" of me around the appartment and they re all linked to Kim, like for example, upon the telephone, this thing I wrote (I still don t know why!) "Kim Wilde 2000 Volts", or that little "Love Blonde" picture I pasted behind the bathroom door... And maybe through my big Love for Kim s universe I was led to go into my direction. I mean, AliSue is none else than my inner child coming away, over and over... I was talking with my friend DominiK the other day and he told me he finds it amazing the way I m inspired by my childhood, I agree with him and think I m rich of that, as it s also that little child that allows me keeping open minded, and curious of the current things in the air and of the unknown situations I could find myself in. Like Annie sang, "keep young and beautiful, if you want to be loved..." Kim, if you read this, let me kiss your painted lips, that house of Salomé has always intrigued attracted me you know, would you agree being my guide honey? ”

I must admit though that sometimes I don’t understand the idea behind some materials broadcasted in West European countries. They often show just one of the sides of Bulgaria - post communist country, with poor shepherds struggling to find a way to survive…
It is not quite true. Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe with more than 1,300 years of history (yes, founded back in 681). I am not going to teach a history lesson hear, but I want to assure you that our nation has been very strong and proud through those years…
The regime has made its damage – that we cannot hide. But that was long time ago now and you are right, the young people here are living completely different life now with all the opportunities, available for the smart, talented and innovative, as it is everywhere else. That’s is why I chose to stay and try to make a difference here instead of washing someone’s dishes in USA for example (not that this is not a decent job, right)…
But I guess the most appropriate way to prove my point is to invite you to come ;o))
Maybe with this new red Fiat Turbo of yours (I really liked your other car…and feel sorry for it, but 110mph too much for a first gear..man!!)… But we will have to watch you very closely, so you won’t find yourself in the wrong lane direction ;o))) Or we can find you a beautiful young girl to drive you around (the men here are convinced that they have the most beautiful women in the world)…

Anyway,I had a busy day with meetings in the hot sticky West End of London Town.
Came home and put the tv on to relax and eat some lunch.
I was watching a travel channel(when you get old you like comfort viewing like cookery, gardening and travel)
The programme was about the Orient Express train line and a poor lady was stopped in Bulgaria as a girl with her family and put into prison for 64 years!!
They also showed a lot of the country and I understand what you told me,that it wasn't all quaint country farms as I imagined.I love the music you both gave me though, thanks again for that!
They said it was one of the cruellest regimes in the world.
Its so good to see that they did not crush the spirit of the people. If I did not know you,I would have thought that you were a wealthy married couple of Italy or maybe Greece, very chic and handsome/beautiful/intelligent.
Bad news on my car I have given it to a mechanic as a hobby. The engine was damaged quite badly,I had been pushing it to its limits and reached 160 mph or about 250 kph in previous weeks.Going into first gear at 110 mph is not a good idea.
Today I bought a shiny red Fiat Coupe Turbo,as I had a good job last week. It's all a cliched way of being for a single middle aged man,but now I can see why they do it.
I will have one more flush of youthfull behaviour then I will "settle down"(actually I'm lying about the last bit)”

That gave credebility to Kim's music as a pop-rock music, at a time the rock-press begun to make bad reviews....

I can't tell what is it about her personality but overall the more she gives the more you want. i think thats how True STAR should be, i do like Kylie some of her recoreds great but Everytime i see her on TV interviews, something about her doens't appeal to me, i dont know why, i don't find her EXCITING, she can sell out Wembley and etc, i just dont find her EXCITING. i like little "Freaky, unusual, unexpecting, yet humble" people ala Madonna LOL”

So yet another first for me from Pierre's wonderful website.”

“Hi guys,
I will try and locate a video of Heartbeat UK.The set was custom painted by a girl who is now a top movie set designer.I don't know her name but will find out from Jon.
She painted a stunning backdrop in a sort of Sci Fi stylee.
The track is boy band pop but with a twist,a sort of U2 echo guitar riff opens it and super slick NYC production.
I forgot to mention the bass player who was Mark from Kims first band.He left to work with The Thompson Twins and then Thomas Dolby.Hey you wanna know about the 80's,you're talking to the right man!
LISA,I am going to Kims huge summer soiree this weekend and although I may not be privy to Kims personal bathroom(she has guest bathrooms you see)I will certainly ask her what beauty products she uses.I used to use her moisturiser on the road and she was very fussy. She would dole some out on a little spatula and insist that I didn't touch the pot as I would get human body oil in it and contaminate it.
I have no idea what it was,but I guess it was expensive/exclusive.
Just to lower the tone of your site, I would like to say that after looking at the members board,Lisa and Karina are hot babes.I would offer you both out for champagne and oysters if you weren't so far away.
As it happens I will have to do some meetings in NYC this year and will be hoping to meet y'all for a coffee or a beer.
Tokyo is another matter. If I can get BMG to pay for me,I want to do a worldwide trip to meet all of the tv and film producers who have used my music and thank them personally.I think it makes good PR sense. My boss at BMG however just thinks I want a free ticket to party around the world.

The denim was vintage Levi's worth hundreds each piece on their own. Then they were taken apart and fitted to each members body. Then they were adorned with antique leather and war memorabilia. Each suit cost about £5,000 by the time they were finished.
We had the antique Levi's and also whilst we were recording in NYC we bought some new white Levi jackets and jeans and had them made too.

Sorry I missed your comments, your board is so active!
I have 20 or so tracks that we did.Where they are I have no idea.I can't even find the releases.
They were very well produced by Culture Clubs US producer Lew Hahn.He was a big part of Arif Mardin's team and they sounded wicked. The singer was Steve Lambert from Roman Holiday. We were a crazy and wild bunch of guys who spent a quarter of a million pounds in having custom made music, clothes and videos. As we made no money back, surprise surprise,Virgin dropped us.It was such fun in the 80's when money was no object.
Jon is back in Culture Club of course.Boy George has a musical of his life that did well in the West End of London, and is now on tour.

“Dear Steve, I took a little time to read your story so far as a re-Creation time in those changing times for me... I m so touched by every of your words, your mother, your father, your neighbours (who still must remember your Woodstock vibrations, where ever they are now!), the gangs and you, learning how to defend yourself, to express yourself through music to escape some grey reality, post war. You and your headmaster, giving you the secrets to stay smart and humble, whatever your reality is (I was lucky having a perfect mother to teach me that), your Virgin gig, like a big disaster and another great lesson, which is that all doesn t come at once, but most of the times, step by step, a bad experience being an opened opportunity to another positive step... Your Flintstones gig "Sorry guys, but look at my skin colour! If you wanna dress me up in a leopard fur, do it in blue please, thank you." Believe me, closing my eyes I can imagine you in your cow boy boots and blue fake fur, like a crazy daddy long legs! Your life, as written and resumed on this great site is a big honour for us, the Kim Wilde lovers. But it s also a unique lesson of life, which shows how much not taking yourself too seriously, staying opened at heart and in a state of curiosity can make your life such a thrill, with all the ups and downs that go with it. You seem to be an explorer, someone that never stops sitting on your own pride, it s very humble. Do you really want to meet Jesus? 1 funny title on the last Morrissey s album "You Are The Quarry" is "I have forgiven Jesus"... Another point of view!”

So blond, so wild, reminds me of a guitarist who can be seen by the real love blonde side..." I never heard the song but thought the sleeve looked like a real boys band, you know, all those boys in tight jeans so close to each other, no place for Georgie actually! I have a funny story, which can be a detail but made me think about all of you here and you too, Mrs Fowler. My boy, who s currently working hard to enter the university, has taken 1 of his friends flat for 2 months to concentrate himself on his exams. His friend, a funny 21 years old guy working in the music industry, has covered his kitchen walls of parties flyers, festival programs, Playboy postcards and Kinder Surprise toys, a funny kitchen indeed! The other day, while having my breakfast, I watched all those pop images on the walls and my eyes stopped on an orange "Back To The '80s" flyer with a stylised picture of a singer we all know well here and screamed "You have Kim Wilde in your kitchen my love!", he came and asked me "Where is she? Here?" (Shame on him and his young age, as he was pointing another Playmate postcard, grrr ;-), I showed him the flyer and after that he went back to the living room singing "I have Kim Wilde in my kitchen, la la la!", cute isnt it? Kim is such an intersting person she never rarely hang out with Big superstars, or moviestars its little fascinating, even in her 95 songs "You all i realy wana do" she sings "I can be with a moviestars, driving mercedez Benz but wouldn't mean that much to me, i rather be with you" She never realy cared about Vanity, big Celeb Bashes, Partys, Openings, i rarely see her in some big conventions...In a way i was Wow its soo cool, in the other hand it little backfired to her, she became kind of outsider, too hommie for Uk, too grounded, for Crazy music Biz. She tryed to stay away from Celeb gatherings..The only 1 Big Celeb AIDS Charity she did and i bought the video in USA STAND BY ME..she sang a song by Elthon John...And i remember when she couldn't find love for soo many years and im so Glad she finally did find her Love is Holy :)I said to myself well see J, if its hard for Kim ( that any anyone she wants she can have it) and it was still hard for her, that means its not an Easy thing to Find, i guess it has to find You.”

Basically I was attracted to the first tracks she released,as that was the first time I heard her. Then I was involved as a band member from 1982-1998 so I had a different perspective.I really liked some tracks from recent years that I was not involved with too,so its a hard one.

And nothing else - a bass player solo for over an hour. Of course we suggested remastered albums with some unreleased material as bonus tracks, or maybe some b-sides that never saw the light of laser - LOVING YOU remains one of the most stunning songs Kim ever did and it still doesn't exist on CD! Some of the old stars from the past two decades sometimes returns with new material, and seriously you can hear when there is a heart for music behind and not just a heart wanting to be a popstar and famous. So many popstars these days are manufactored by moneypeople before even knowing what they wanted, besides being famous. “WoW Karlitto, that s what I call a music lover! Just a few things, I don t think we have to take nostalgy as a refuge if we don t want to end like Pascal Sevran ;-) I personaly do stay faitfull to my old favourites because they partly made what I am today, I mean, when I was a little schoolboy, they were such an inspiration ;-) But now, I wouldn t like to enclose myself into nostalgy, I think we re currently living 1 of the richest period in music, a lot of different styles improve, get better and it s 1 of my discipline: staying curious of the current sounds. Of course we don t have to take anything for granted, you can easily avoid M6 and Star Academy where they lay, because just like you say, it s done with a calculated budget but without feelings. You know what stays forever? Feelings. Star Academy is a current pollution and the result of the '80s MTV that made of us kind of a narcissiK generation, they made us believe that even without a certain talent, being seen on TV makes you a star, which is wrong. It s all PoP corn. Anybody has an idea of what Loana is up these days? Floating in a swimming pool to relax her 2 whales? No, crap doesn t last for long. There s no secret, only talent and inspiration make you stay, that s why Kim stayed for so long and I do believe she left the bizz for a lack of motivation after seeing her weight seemed more important in the press. I can clearly understand, even if not a musician myself, what kind of disapointment it must have been sometimes. Crap is an option, just choose avoiding it. Take the good for you and believe me there are plenty of good bands around in '04, some rock, some make you dance, but they re here! ”

Not saying that is fair or anything, I hate those poeple who will get at anyone just for the money, but that's life. The critics reviewing records and concerts are almost never impressed with anyone and can always find something negative to say. I know they have to be critical but you can be that in a positive way I think. “i do understand your point Mr byrd,& i still don't understand the UK media..they should have been very proud & they still should be..anyway,of course Kim did a good choice to think about her own family first but something tells me the more you let wrong notes sound, the more people listen to bad Music, the more you let only so-called singers express, the more people think it's good, because radios,tv,press tend to make you think it's NICE when it's simply USELESS if not stupid. And they're very persuasive..That's the way Ignorance kills True Art. Sorry my vision of Art is a bit different, full of colours, sounds & FEELINGS.And Art is changes. Most of the time i can't hear good songs beause of a lack of feelings nowadays. And because most of the new coming singers have no real personality. What happened to our heroes today? Why stay away & let record comp sell commercial soup, have we come to the point of no return? Do we have to become so nostalgic because we don't have the chance to see the light of a brand new day?
Or maybe is this because we better shut up & never get hurt more.I've been playing music with my mind, music with my heart & soul,i feel happy cos it makes me feel the happiest. There's not a day i don't think about Music! “Regarding Kim's perception in the UK media. You are absolutely 100% correct in your views. The UK tabloid or gutter press are the most parasitic/viscious in the world. If you think then that the pop press are failed tabloid writers you get close to their niche.Slightly above the amoeba or plankton. They have the" build them up to knock them down"approach which I think makes them feel they hold power over artist's that they envy.
When Kim came along they were fast to praise her as it was impossible to find fault, great pop songs, well produced, nice fresh image etc. However when Kim kept on going they were a bit fed up because they thought ok we've given you your 15 minutes of fame, now go away.Of course she didn't and they got more and more jealous until they tried the worst thing they could come up with.Kim's old fashioned, jaded we want these new pop stars who will do anything we want them to and then disappear when we've had our fun.Kim just stayed and stayed and stayed. As you said the family have the talent and the intelligence to keep on going.Kim would have a deal now if she wanted one and would kiss the corporate ass .She also has the 80's tours which she can enjoy and still be a good mother, wife, gardener etc. I admire her for having the integrity to know what is real and what is really important in life.In effect she has taken them all on,won and has the humility to not even think about it.Compare that to the flesh baring me,me,me antics of so many others and a totally different picture emerges.Britney,Cristina etc could learn a lot but then I don't think they would understand.

“Hey Mr Byrd! Now I take some time to give you my impressions about Kim s singing career during the '80s, an answer from you would be received with a pleasure of course, do you have an idea of the honour you and Pierre give to us these days Steve? Well, here we go! When I was a little boy, my big star was Kim and I used to spend all my money on cheap teenagers mags, even if there was just a micro picture of her. Just her name, Kim Wilde, had a magiKal effect on me. I m kind of an obsessed person and when I love someone, it s strong and forever (I should know now ;-), all that to tell you that maybe the way I saw her was not necesseraly the way she was perceived by the other people. I started to read french and german mags before discovering the brit teenagers mags, like Smash Hits or Number 1, and then I remember I thought they were shitty on her because so opportunistiK. I mean, it s so easy always choosing the winner s camp! After "Another Step" (the album) was out with the great "Hangin'On" as an opener, "Another Step" (the single) was another smash hit, so she could be seen in those mags. The truth is that they gave a bad image of her, I don t know if you ever read the concert review in Smash Hits of the Town And Country Club in '86. I, the little swiss teenager thought, "F*ck, instead of being proud of her, the brit media seem to be jealous of her fame!" That s right, it was sort of a jealousy. Because she didn t enter any category. After 1 or 2 obscure years, the girls from Bananarama chose the facility by signing with Stock/Aitken&Waterman, who brought them back under the spotlights with "Venus", "I Heard A Rumour" or "Love In The First Degree" with just a (major) difference with the early years: they had become a marketed "wash n'go" product (Siobhan left the band for that reason), I still think their "True Devotions" LP is the best they ever made, even if the sooooooooooo S/A/W "WoW" is the brits all time fave. So, S/A/W manufactured the 'Nanas, Kylie, Astley, Donovan, Mel&Kim and... Sonia (!). Wilde, being Marty s daughter and Rick s sister had no intention selling her soul to the charts gods. On the other hand, you had girls like Sam Fox and Sabrina who were there to... entertain the Pope, isn t it? I still thank God today Kim never took her top off to sell more. And the superstar league, like Madonna & Co, were already involved with MTV like Marilyn for the 20th Century Fox a few decades before, it was the evolution of the american life & PoP culture. Kim was european, doing her Wilde songs like a lonely bird... But Kim is not a loser, she would not have gone through the little door whispering to her audiance "Don t say nothing s changed...", Kim is clever and gifted, so are her dad and bro, so what they did was "Close", sort of a compromise in a S/A/W time, but in a Wilde style. "Close" includes some of the strongest Wilde melodies, songs like "European Soul" or "You ll Be The One" are 100% Wilde pearls. When the brit media saw "You Came" getting higher and higher in the charts and the album following proudly, they started to change their bitchy words into "the best selling british female singer of all times", sorry but that s*cks. So opportunist, so non sense. If you are proud of someone, then you are also proud of him/her when he s lower. The brit press has always loved seeing their stars falling down the dumper, look at Boy George back then... That s why I think Kim s career is so atypical, so out of every theory, so unique. She always managed to stay faitfull to her roots, with highs and lows. That s also why I would never compare a girl like Madonna to her. Also why I was the only 1 at school telling the others, during the Wilde vs Ciccone war, "my heart is big enough for the 2 of them and look, I m lucky, I have it all for me!" ;-) I wish you all a wonderful life, I gotta get out of my souvenirs now, shit! ”

And my first memory of you is when you were doing the backing vocals on "Dancing In The Dark"! Here's another song that sounded better live, almost like a Level 42 track. I also remember that on the program you already mentionned 'Rock Bottom' as your favorite album, and I thought you meant the collection of the worst singles ever recorded which I had read about in 'The Book Of Heroic Failures' (recommended reading if you want a good laugh). “Hey Pat, funny story about your dad s point of view about the lyrics meaning of your favourite singers! My dad always did the same and told me that "Take On Me" didn t mean anything at all, that I m a grown up child, I clearly understand why it didn t mean anything to him ;-) Anyway, he repeated all the time that Madonna was a slut (you re right dad), that Nena couldn t sing (well...) and the only 1 who was worth listening to was Kim Wilde, me and my mum laughed in his back as we both knew it was not exactly her voice and songs he fancied at the time... Anyway, you can explain your dad that "Big In Japan" is a song about the power of occidental money to buy cheap sex in Asia, if not clear then, it s very clear now. Something I can t tolerate are the big fat ugly men buying children s innocence, they don t have any idea of what they break, even if they re sick for doing such a crime. “That's what I meant about her being at her greatest on that tour (greatest hits tour!) - she seemed to enjoy it so much, and so did we. The Danish critics also mentioned the version of "Real wild child" in a very positive way and she did also wear those red devil horns. When she introduced Steve as her own personal guitarhero she laid down on her knees and made this worship thing with her arms (I don't know how to explain in english) and then also for Ricky afterwards "or else he would get jealous at Steve" she said. She was so funny and over the top at that concert. I have a recording of it (shhhh) made on tape on a little ghettoblaster and I have heard it 100s of times since and simply love it. What the hell does 'big in japan' mean anyway?" "Err, dad, it means they're POPULAR in Japan." Guess he thought it was something dirty :-) _______________________ Rashid, I had the pleasure of seeing Kim 20 years ago on the Rage to Rock tour when as an encore she did "Rage To Love", announcing it would be her new single. I was overjoyed! (She also did a fantastic version of 'Putty In Your Hands', even better than the studio version if you can imagine!) 10 years later, during the Hits tour, she asked the audience what would they like as an encore. "Love Blonde?" she suggested. And we we were like "naaaa!" She laughed and gave the mike to some guy in the audience, and he just went "ben, j'sais pas moi!" ("duh... dunnow!") I think the whole house was thinking "Why did she have to pick this twerp?" The girl next to me was pleading for 'Rage To Love' but Kim had previously insisted the encore had to be a number they had already played, and since 'Rage To Love' was a flop in France (sometimes I hate my country) it wasn't on the menu. Oh well. We all settled on 'Kids In America'. Except that she had come on stage earlier on rolling her eyes and telling the audience: "Can you believe they say I'm too old to sing 'Kids In America'? So I won't sing 'Kids In America'!" Everybody hurts. "I'll sing 'Kids In La Cigale' instead!" (that was the name of the venue. And she did! Rashid, I wish you would have seen her then, she was at her most relaxed and funny during that tour (not to mention gorgeous!) The highlight was at the end when she donned a pair of devil red horns and did a terrific cover version of Iggy Pop's 'Real Wild Child'. She had the critics eating out of her hand with that one. And Steve, do you remember the huge hand you got when she introduced her band and your turn came? You could tell this was a house of 'connaisseurs' (except for that twerp who got the mike)!”

In Spain I saw The Chemical Brothers, 2 boys from Manchester who got together through a common taste for Public Enemy, Cabaret Voltaire, The Jesus And Mary Chain and Kraftwerk, they invented a new sound in '95 that was about to invade the clubbey scene. A powerful music based on a strong bass line that hits where it feels good. The festival I was in, the FIB, was proudly celebrating its 10th anniversary under the friendly spanish sun and with a program that s nowhere else to be found! It was the very first I went there and the friends I was enjoying the FIB with have gone there every year since the mid '90s, like a routine. They told me that the Chems in concert in Benicassim is like surfing on a rocket and believe me, the day of their venue, you could feel electricity in the air since the early after noon... We were about to quit Planet Earth to go on Venus, Mars, Jupiter, the Moon, the Sun and back to Earth, soflty carried by the 2 magicians. They enjoy a "close 2 God" status over there and that s why they come back every year. Their show was madgestiK, both for the sounds and the visuals... I love music so much when I m lucky enough to be part of such an event you know, it makes you realise that music never stops, like Kraftwerk s masterpiece "Music Non Stop"! After rock n roll re-Invented a whole generation, people thought "Wow, we ve just invented the coolest groove on Earth, impossible to make better from here!" and History has shown us that it was wrong, that music is a never endening inspiration, full of good and less good discoveries but always in motion. Because music comes from the heart and goes straight to the people s hearts.”

JR I know Kim has always been quite expensive, but you get what you pay for don't you?It was great working with a stunning woman like that and we had some good times.Don't forget she was also my boss so it was a professional relationship, but Kim would let us get away with some really stupid stuff.I was pestered all the time by people wanting me to introduce them to Kim.If I trusted them and thought Kimwould like them I would introduce and stay close by.If there was a problem I would get them to leave. If I took the wrong person Kim would give me a hard time, but it almost never happened.
In bars and pubs I only had fights in the north where people can't drink well, and the south,I knocked down 4 or 5 Aussies before being dragged out by three gigantic doormen and I still walked back to the hotel.I couldn't sing for a few days after being punched in the throat.
Pat.........,the Alphaville guys were quite Socialist in their outlook and were only signed by MCA because a lady they liked and trusted worked there.
They had houses together somewhere and all the guys in the band and their partners lived together, then came all the road crew and assistants. Then came all the hangers on and slowly outside people brought problems and it became too big.The main guys were very talented and sensitive types and I think the pressure was not what they wanted. So it started to break up a little until it faded away.

It was the first time I contributed to a song with my guitar riff becoming the backing vocal riff too.Thats where our writing team began from.Dave Edmunds did a good job on the 7 inch mix too.Kim had fun paying homage to her father the King of English Rock and Roll and of course,Elvis.”

I'm not sure why the director decided to apply those weird, "shaky" effects to some scenes (basically those featuring Kim), but I suppose it's somewhat of the same approach Soderbergh took in "Traffic". Marian Gold always struck me as a very sensitive fellow, given his underrated songwriting skills. ____________________________

LoveBlond22, why RAGE TO LOVE you ask? Since it happens to be one of my favorite Kim Wilde singles, along with Water On Glass, my theory will probably not gel with yours. However, you have to remember that Shangri-La (my all-time fave along with Kids and Child Come Away) had already been released as a b-side to The Touch (at the time I thought it a prime example of a b-side that should have been a a-side, sorry Rashid!) and was probably considered not commercial enough for a single. Aside from that, I always thought Rage To Love was an obvious choice for a single, and many critics at the time seemed to agree, even those who didn't like the album. So did the english buying public and Rage was Kim's first top 20 entry since...View From A Bridge, 3 years before. A good omen for Kim's comeback the following year with Hangin' On.”

Alisue your comments are a big help.Of course I followed early German techno,I used to do gigs with Can back in the hippy past of the Roundhouse and I saw early Krafwerk gigs,my mates saw them in the UK not so long ago.We hung out with Alphaville at their "commune" a bit and they were nice idealistic boys,I remember they cried when we I mentioned the war,but I think I got away with it (Fawlty Towers)I know the guys from Telec who invented Belgian electronica,as they produced my mate Alec Mansion a Belgian artist.
Lisa, Kim calls me "Nums"she named me this after seeing "The Party" a Peter Sellars film where he played an Asian at a party and was drunk, talking to a parrot saying ,Hello Birdy Birdy Num Num ,so Kim has called me that evers since, now shortened to Nums.Byrdman is my email prefix, the band used to call me Iceman, but I'm too warm for that ,so I diverted it to Byrdman,as I finally felt grown up.(Lets all meet up in the year 2000 etc,Pulp, yep another Sheffield band)
Rashid, all chart positions are at www.kimwilde.com
Pierre won't mind you looking.
Maxim, you are so right ,Rick me and Kim can have FUN on stage.Nobody wants to pay me or I would do it.Unfortunately I am a professional so won't carry my gear to a gig ,play ,drive home etc without a decent paypacket.I will be playing with all the family, Marty too ,at a summer party, sure I'll do that for free.Don't think too much about a new album. It can't be done if Kim won't promote it and I don't think she needs to slog around endless tv,radio, press interviews anymore. She has a much more fulfilling life as a mum, wife, garden designer etc.The tours are her bit more fun without giving up what she has gained since the tyranny of promotion is finished.
I hope I don't get sued for any of my comments,it's Pierre's fault as he is responsible for any site content.Maybe not I never read the small print.

I currently need ideas for Germany NO BIERKELLAR please ,at the moment I'm thinking the great classical composers.I am using Violin and Accordian for the new member states of the EC,any ideas welcomed for typical sounds,if it has strings and frets all the better.

My fave songs that you have heard with Kim are indeed Mr.Heartache and Missing ,and no I'm not Mr.Heartache (I don't think)My all time favourites with Kim were never released and legal ownership prevents me from doing so.

Believe me, it doesn t feel comfortable when out of the movie, but it makes you think about what s left to do, individualy to make it a mass movement, there s an emergency for everyone to open wide our eyes and see the scandal of how this world is ruled in some places by ignorant people. It was a mess and a shame, especially after the wonderful and catchy gig I saw in Spain a few days ago, well, let s put it that way: a spanish audiance is a bigger motivation than a swiss one ;-) Massive Attack, instead of that were absolutely shining and introduced a new instrumental number from their forthcoming album which sounds like a real Massive number, a missionary sound about our drownded world, Massive Attack is definitely as important as The Beatles in music history.”

“Meant to reply to messages asked about the thrill of it.I wrote it with Kim at her apartment when she lived near St.Johns Wood ,London. It was one of the first of many songs we would write together over the years.Technology was in its infancy in the early 80's and Kim was coping with her first steps into Information Technology or as we all say IT. Therefore it was her first thrill with a new computer and of course you have to turn a computer on as the lyric says in the chorus.Hope that makes sense............

“Hi Lisa,

We’ve been missing you a lot lately. I hope you are OK really…

Well, we spoke for different things with Kim. We didn’t talk too much about music actually – I would hate to ask her “that” question about her plans of a new release… If there is something new cooking, we will definitely learn on time ;o)

I think Kim didn’t remember me. But I wasn’t expecting her to remember a fan she’s been talking to only once, more than a year ago… Besides, I wasn’t wearing my black leather outfit ;o)) Otherwise I am sure she would remember…
But my outfit kinda took her attention again, LOL ;o) I was wearing a T-shirt with her self-written dedication – 4 Krasi (heart) Kim Wilde (signature). I got that on the BTBW CD signed in Tivoli and I made a number of T-shirts (different colors) with it. Nasko and Pierre also had such T-shirts (4 Krasi wasn’t there, of course). So, Kim noticed and asked about the T-shirts. She was pleasantly surprised and she said that she really likes them. We spent some time laughing at my offer to give her one… I was just kidding of course – you don’t expect me to think that Kim Wilde would wear a T-shirt saying “4 Krasi….stuff”. I doubt that she would wear something having her own name on anyway…

We also talked about the concert, the hard time we all had driving to Bournemouth.
I asked about Harry and Rose and why she didn’t bring them with her. She replied that it was too hot and the traffic was awful, so it would be really bad idea to take them to Bournemouth that day.

I told Kim that my daughter, who is barely 6 now, loves her songs and sings along with them…

I think Pierre mentioned a few days ago that he handed to Kim a CD called “MISSING”. This CD contained some remixes and covers of Kim Wilde’s songs, done by the WILDE fans for this website as a dedication to her and the WILDE team. He also said that we are very grateful for the lovely music they’ve been giving us throughout all those years. Pierre said that even if we don’t get anything new, we will somehow manage to live with it… Kim was really moved… Moreover, she said to Nick that they must listen to the CD on their way back…

Kim shared with us that Roxanne has bought recently a small house in Knebworth and that she managed to turn the tiny garden into a piece of heaven…

At some point I gave Kim an album with nice photos of her, taken at the Tivoli show. She liked three of them and I was so happy to offer her to keep them, which she did.

There was of course some other stuff we talked about but that was really not too important… It was just chatting…

Oh, and Lisa, darling, if I ever decide to do a plastic surgery, I will definitely want the same nose… ;o)))

Philippe, regarding Pierre's schooze: My mother thinks men with big noses are incredibly sexy - that's why she adores my father?? It's probably bigger than Pat's and Pierre's put together. I haven't really checked out Pierre's nose yet, just thought "oh doesn't he have a nice look in his eyes, and dosn't he look "tight" in jeans"..just that kind of thing really. It was just a "normal" meeting between "normal" people, just the way it would happen if your co-worker was to introduce his sister or wife.. except the latter might be not as beautiful and talented as Kim (well, who knows? just try!). I guess you should ask more details from Krasi, because my sweet friend from Bulgaria was there with her husband and she's better than me at telling stories. I simply want to add that I had compiled a CD with the best of the artwork (covers, remixes) that had been made for WTV by fans those months, Kim took it and said "Nick (Boyles) and I, we'll listen to it carefully on our way back, tomorrow". I hope it was the right way to say how much we care about her music, even though at some point I mentioned that her own happiness was the most important thing to preserve (well I guess she hasn't waited for me to be aware of it!). Finally, the gig was nice as usual, and also a great occasion to spend some time with Marcel, Katrien (a lovely girl) and all the others around. It's very club-oriented, with female vocals and on one version there's a rap by a guy. It's really inspired by Kim's version, especially when it comes to lyrics with the line "you're just using me, hey !, abusing me" which was rewritten by Kim and Ricky. It's actually quite good, much better than the Sinema's version last summer. ”

AliSue s working on his computer to earn money to have fun in Spain in a few days, so I come to say hello to the sleeping, sunbathing, drinking, (...) Wilde Cicconection! It s the first time I m going in Benicassim and I can already feel the joy and power of the people who come there together, in music! As it s in Spain and AliSue s going back on camping after a few years laying in the illusion of luxury Taj Mahal and MadgestiK Palace! Oh yes my dears, that s it, I wanted a young hero? OK, here he is, but you d better adapt yourself in a camping mood... Nothing more oldish than going to a hotel for a festival! Me: "OK M, but I need 1 hour for me in the shower to get ready for the shows, so you protect the shower door for 1 hour everyday!" I bought my Brumisateur by Evian, my black spanish fan to make some wind and yesterday I ve been sewing a large white linen sailor trousers to shake my ass like an ace! I actually can t wait to go, my friends keep telling me "How will you deal with that Alex? Are you sure you can go camping?" and I laugh "Even Barbie goes camping you know, so why not me?" And we re staying in the press camping, so it s gonna be chic ;-))) Anyway what counts is the music, and the program is simply madgestiK! From the Chemical Bros to the Pet Shop Boys, form Lou Reed to the Dandy Warhols, from Air to Tiga... We re gonna have some fun! And for my spanish festival, I have even learnt the spanish! I know how to say "Si senòr!" and my M keeps on stressing me "No Alex, you don t have to say "Si senòr" to every man", and I answer him "Si senòr!" ;-))) James, did I show you the T shirt I bought in SF? It s a printed "MadonnaSummer" T shirt, she came and bought 1 for herself, the stuff in the little store couldn t believe it! You can imagine how they sold after having put a picture of her wearing the T shirt on internet... There was 1 piece left, and it was mine!
