“caro: interesting views on flattery.i dont know why i do it,it just comes out.i think something and i say it. i suppose sometimes i do it for other reasons like if a woman has no self confidence and she says for instance.. "i need bigger boobs" and i reply saying "well your bum makes up for it" i have to be very careful though with flirting/flattery as one time a girl at work said she was dyeing her hair blonde and i said "dont forget to dye your other bit (down below!!) and she reported me.ihad to go to a disciplinary meeting and i got a written warning for "inapropriate behaviour"....so us men have to be careful what we say as we cango over the edge ”

“karina,very funny story about you washing the money,i told syl and she was fair pissin her sides! my mates mum was classic for doing daft things.we once went back to his house after being at the pub and he decided to put some music on,so he switched his system on and it blew up!..his mum came in and asked what the noise was and we told her that the stereo had blown up.she said "oh i washed it for you in the sink before" (she had submerged it in hot water and cleaned it)we just fell about laughing also a few weeks earlier the plumber had come round to their house to fit a central heating system.he came through the door and took his coat off and put his tools down and he went out to get one of the radiators from his van.he came back in the house and put it down in the middle of the room.his mum came in and said "oh are you putting it in the middle of the room? thats a strange place!".....the plumber was laughing that much that he had to leave the room and went into the kitchen,we both joined him as we were dying to laugh,my sides were aching so much through laughing ”

“SelectMike,you are a very good psychologist.Usually,women focus on their (physical or of character)flaws thinking people see only them.I read an article saying people absolutely don't look at someone the way he/she does about him/herself.Women are much more severe with themselves than men can be with them.Actually men are indulgente with us. Steve,yes you're right about women,they are the ones who make progress mentalities in some countries,them who call for peace.But men are so full of goodness too,I just take the examples here:when you praise Karina,I know you think it but I also know you tell it because you know Karina needs to hear it;when you give me compliments,I know it's because you know I'm not self-confident at all,etc.The other day Dave talked about flattery with women but I think you just give something,it's not flattery,it's good caring in the cases below.I observe this forum and I've found this several times,SelectMike has just done,and so did Dave,Karl,Filou,etc You see,men are on the same level than women. “Yes Dave,it's a funny story.I har some foreigners coming to Paris say people are not very welcoming and warm.I know you said you visited other araes of France but you should also try the South East,in the countryside,people know how to take their time and to live,you won't surprise if I tell again about Provence(its markets,landscapes,big sun,etc),you can't die without seeing that. My mother was a bit like yours.She was very class,very polite,a bit shy,but if someone forgot what respect means,she was a real bulldozer that noboby could stop. Thanks Steve for the compliments,but you know when I said my bottom is like a half football,it was a no compliment I did to myself.But if people think it's great then it's better like this,anyway me I don't see it as it's behind me,it's others who see it!I watched on TV in Brazil and even in France some women put implants to have rounder bottom.I even saw some men put implant to have false muscles(calves and pectorals).I'm not satisfied with my body but I'll never be able to put implants. ”

“yes steve i noticed that it said bernie torme on a couple of those videos,but we all know better yes its funny how life works out innit? regarding my french i write better than i speak.i get very embarrassed when i try and speak in public. i speak to my friend and his daughters when they come over from france he's ok and forgives my little mistakes but his daughters always snigger when i speak to them! ive not had the best of luck speaking to strangers in france.the only 2 occasions i did i had a row with a post office counter clerk who wouldnt let me buy a stamp without buying a postcard with it. it ended in me shouting in english(which of course he understood) it went something like "just give me the f-----n stamp you d--k h--d" the second was a very strange experience in the holiday inn in paris i think it was.me and my mum and dad were drinking in the bar and 2 french guys walked up and pinched 2 of my cigarettes out of the packet.i asked them what they were doing (in french) and they replied its customary to share you cigs over here so i said oh right so i walked over and stole both their drinks and said "fair swap?" to which they took offence and stood up to square up to me meanwhile my mum told me to give them their drinks back which i did promptly (shes got a good right hook) and told the 2 french guys to sit down.the 2 guys started laughting at her so i said "oh god dont laugh" they said "why whats she gonna do" to which my mum replied "i'll show you what" and began to hit them both with her stick as they cowered under the table it was so funny.anyway they left quickly and it died down at the end of it all my dad who has a very dry sense of humour said "cigarette anyone"? and we all fell about laughting ”

“Well, Bardot was the most photographed on magazine covers at the time. She had the pout of course, and a very slim figure. I usually prefer more curvaceous women, but she had a nice shape anyway. And she had a proud walk in her prime. Monroe was Classy, voluptuous, and slightly flawed as no real close ups were used. She had a wonderful innocence and vulnerability. Going back to language, it's true that English has a lot of 1 and 2 letter words enabling a writer to express in confined space, and also being a great boon in Scrabble. The French insistence on everything being in the same gender makes the language hard to learn, but women are definitely female out there. An adjective such as 'nice' has to be in the feminine, yet strangely enough, love is only in the masculine, if I remember rightly from Karl. So this may be a bit of French chauvinism here? Haha. Women can't love a man in the female sense?? Still, I find the language very attractive and romantic.”

“Well Caro i was actually talking about sounds such as I sound or OVE AVE UN sounds like in FLy, Love, Save, Sun,you know...so many other sounds anyway.. I like also short words for the impact they have on Music and English allows that, cos many words are meaningful with great sounds & rhythm.I don't know many french singers able to find such equivalence with our own language except maybe Hardy,Farmer,Berger or Souchon/Voulzy.Probably a few others but not so many. Then comes the matter of style & creativity/poetic sense.I decided to work with Mike cos his approach of Music is similar to mine and i love the way he writes, very metaphoric deep & mysterious style. Missing is definitely one the best KW songs ever, Steve & Kim both excellent on that one. I remember that song woke something in me, i thought 'i wanna try to make Music later' but for many years i only could compose in my mind.”

“Captain, pre Kim like 81/2,I had several own bands and projects,so was mainly into them. Of course Thursday night was always TOTP's (cancelling that show was an early death knell for record companies)so saw Kim appear there and was suitably impressed. Once I the job with her,I was an employee and was happy to be in work. So I was focussed on delivering their ideas as to the best of my ability. Like or dislike does not come into it. At the mo I'm looking at her 95 album,no me or Rick on these tracks and they're great!”

“Oh I know, orchestral players can be very snobbish, and many conductors arrogant, but hopefully listeners can be encouraged not to be like that. And also,opening our minds to these works early on is so useful as there are so many subtleties to learn. Some come to this Music so late in life and then regret how much they could have learnt before. After all reviews of Hi Fi always have to admit the subtleties of this genre, as well as Jazz, so Rock and Pop has to create fusion with these things in order to be considered more than basic. This leaves one difficult area of snobbery. Is it snobbish to look down on rubbish? Some might say that that is your opinion and therefore you are a snob. However, learning about all genres, what's good, makes one balanced, and what's left is a Music devoid of personality and Artistry which will never stand the test of time. So no, it is not snobbish for discerning people to dismiss the rubbish especially when the money used could have helped the starving. I seem to have a vague memory of Gentle Giant, but you know how it is - noone has heard everything. I think Cal knows them too. Each person goes down their own road through life, and surprisingly can miss many things. The fortunate thing about Classical Music is that some great pieces are generally well known, since they have been around such a long time and the greatest composers known also, and though we can't hear everything, we do have a search for works we can fairly easy follow. However, Pop Music has too many Stars, and the search there for merit with someone new is either rewarding or a complete waste of time as there is so much rubbish now. It is actually giving more excuse for orchestras to look down on it all, but it's when they rap it all up with Pop as a whole - it's then they are being snobbish. It would be a great idea if only the talented were allowed to make Music, but who in hell is going to determine that? Like a lot of Music now, the critics also talk absolute rubbish in the main, so the only thing left is for record buyers to wake up and finish the careers of the undeserving by not buying them anymore. In this climate of Media brainwashing, it will be a long time yet before that will happen. Unfortunately!! If it ever does?”

“mike was never into the group/orchestra fusion thing,although on deep purple's "concerto for a group and orchestra" there were some good bits i always found orchestral people and composers a bit snobbish my uncle played the clarinet in an orchestra in basingstoke.on the occasions when i went up i used to play chords on his acoustic while he played the melody on his clarinet thats really the nearest i got to that scene.i dont think he ever got the rock band thing.my dad was the same,a cockney east end piano pub player (but brought up in the posh regents park area west end)so it was "roll out the barrell" and "mother kelly's doorstep" and "boiled beef and carrotts" played on the piano until i got into music and started playing early genesis deep purple the who all of whom my dad thought were rubbish.and then i was into colluseum 2 and he just thought that was "like a piano falling down stairs"....oh and "gentle giant" were another band who everyone seemed to detest apart from me,i bet thats one group you've never heard of mike,cal or steve? my dad just shook his head when i put that on with me and my son its very different we're both into keane coldplay and other bands of that genre,its great cos we borrow cd's off each other....but as for my eldest son i dont like his music at all stuff like 50 cent etc (oh no ive turned into my dad!) ”

“Dave, Glad you like Hal Blaine. He is so prolific, and the Jazz based outfit, The Wrecking Crew was certainly the way forward for Rock 'n' Roll at the time. Bach and Jazz absolutely, and also Baroque in Rock, as a Rock outfit specialising in playing Vivaldi bears out. However, not anymore, thanks to Steve, Kim's own ambition, and the fact that she is singing with orchestras, and can take on Opera, but without the vibrato excesses, I'm glad to say. So the smaller fry works - no longer important? No, it all has its place. Paul McCartney impressed with writing for a full orchestra, still conceded that now he has written it, all he has to do now is to listen to the end result. He didn't have to perform like he would have to with the Beatles. And finally, great though Beethoven was, he cannot sing. Haha. Don't be snobbish is the moral of the story. And good Minimalism also has its place.”

An insane amount of samples trying to mimic real drums, including which hand you're using (if your pads are sensitive enough + it's an estimation, of course). Good points about Bach, I've actually thought about that a bit (and you know my somewhat complicated relationship with classical music) - I do think that he would have thought a sampler to be a wonderful instrument. The heavenly choirs he would have been able to conjure in his own private chambers, eh? :)”

Though a synth/sampler keyboard isn't the real thing, the sounds are pretty good, and I love playing around with the various Drum kits on board, both acoustic and electronic, and in the end, all sounds are good if someone does something useful with them. In some cases, acoustic instruments can have limitations even, for the benefit of those people who look down on everything electronic. For example Paul McCartney composing for an orchestra had 12 bassoons in harmony on his synth, but the orchestra arranger said that he had to rewrite those parts, as the orchestral equivalent would be a mess. Still, no snobbery here. An orchestra perfectly willing to work with a Rock composer. Anyway, all things acoustic - the vibraphone has a motor in it - haha. So the snobbery shouldn't exist anyway. Julian Bream, the lute player, even overdubs himself, so clearly he wasn't annoyed with Les Paul. And finally, Bach, the keyboard giant of his day, would surely love the modern synth, having at his disposal all manner of pianos, organs, harpsichords etc, along with strings, brass, and on and on it goes. And maybe he would arrange Drum parts too. It has been said even in the days of Isao Tomita that there is no such thing as a synth virtuoso as it would take several lifetimes to master everything on it. I personally love them. To be able to emulate every kind of Band is a wonderful experience, and the acoustic players have no need to worry like they did in the past. Their jobs are still intact. There's something to be said for everything. And there is always more to learn. Back to my keyboards..... ”

“cal: neil peart,what a brilliant drummer! i used to play along to "2112" and "a farewell to kings" you may to be too young to remember them though.neil is the one who promted me to get the smaller size toms (6" 8" and 10") and a load of rocket toms i remember it got so ridiculous the amount of stuff i was adding on,i couldnt even vacuum my bedroom carpet as all the bloody carpet was covered by the drums. when i got into gillan(steves old band) the drummer was absolutely wicked and he used china cymbals to great effect so i just had to buy one,after that i thought why not buy a few more crashes as the kit looked lopsided so i bought 3 more one day i came home from college and my mum was shouting from my bedroom.she'd been tidying up and the cymbal stands had fallen over against the door and wedged tight and she'd been stuck in there for an hour.i couldnt budge it at all without spliting the door.my dad went mad when he got in and said why the f--k have you got a chinaman's hat on a metal pole?,i said dad its a f-----n cymbal not a hat! it cost me £100....he replied right!..sell the hat and the cost will go towards repairing the door timpanis are brilliant i love playing them,also the congas although my fingers swell up on them and i cant get my wedding ring off for days after ”

“mike: yes i think percussionists are important but as with all other members of a band they should blend and not cut across the feel of the song.i try to do things a little different as a drummer.i'll play through a song and listen to the whole thing as im playing,all the instruments and even things like the phrasing of the singers vocals if they sing something on the off beat i'll do something to compliment it or match it.also i try to match the bass guitar when the bassist plays the string i try and match it on my bass drum.if i feel a passage in a song would be better without drums i'll keep quiet until the right time to come in but probably just put the odd cymbal fill in. ”

Plus the fact that, perhaps unlike the cockroach, sharks are very beautiful creatures. I did encounter a whole bunch of reef sharks while diving at the Maldives - they circled our group and we, quite literally kept low. Insanity is an outdated term now,in ths pc world. What is this system?Its never helped me,I have never qualified for any kind of assistance,even now having paid in for 35 yrs I have no help with a crippling professional injury. I have no reply for 7 weeks for an appointment on the NHS. So I went private,no reply,too busy,so I went Chinese ,instant appointment,good therapy,no result. I have known many "insane" people,they are in the main desolate,exhausted ,needy ,frightened people,who need lots of TLC. Has anyone seen Wildestorm counting down the days to Kims gig in Sweden? “caro: yeah good idea to come on facebook as long as it doesnt compromise your input on this site which is very bitchiness free and very easy going i havent had any messages off m/s for about a month now.ive also had problems with the music player.i think the problem is they try to do site maintenance during the day (although its obviously 1-6am to the americans there) and when they try and change an action with all the traffic about it slows up and stops. a bit like a traffic jam with road works in the rush hour with everyone trying to get to place at once the chat boxes are good on facebook but do tend to crash at random which is frustrating as it ususally happens in mid conversation.roxanne ricky and scarlett wilde are on f/b also the stereoblonde girl and mike marcel karl everyone tends to chat to you apart from scarlett and roxanne who ive never had a reply from yet since i joined,obviosly theyre inundated with messages! oh and not forgetting steve.its very good for videos as you can just go on you tube and click on the video then simply click on "facebook" and it goes straight on your profile. btw anyone got a clip of "who do you think" by kim from 1992? its gone from youtube now,i really liked that one its got steve, geoff on drums and the very tiny guy on bass (i forget his name) ”

SelectMike,when we walk with my girlfriends,we are always whistled(we noticed it's more when the sun shines),I take it like a compliment now,my friends don't(some girls think it's like a verbal agression),some shout things from their cars.I felt agressed too when I was a teenager,sometimes I was said"hé beau cul!"(hey beautiful bottoms!),I took it like an insult and replied "hé pauvre con!"(hey bloody fool!),my mother was beside and was embarrassed telling me to shut up. Besides,you have lovely men who will just tell you "Hello,you're beautiful" or "Nice dress!" or "How are you?I just love your eyes" or "Can you help you for anything?"etc and mostly there is gallantery,I always melt for gentlmen. Men are just funny to observe.Sometimes,a girl is in a counter in a shop and the guy will come in this counter 5 or 6 times thinking the girl haven't noticed yet! I unvoluntarily seduced my husband with my bottoms:it was at my cousin's weeding,my cousin was in front of the church with his 5 guymates who I didn't know at all,I was just arrived and was walking by just beside them when suddenly a big wind made my dress blown off just like Marilyn in 7 years inch,they all looked at me with happy faces,they didn't say a word,me I felt so ridiculous so I just said to my cousin"couldn't you marry a day without wind?"to hide my embarrassment but thinking if I knew I would have wore prettier underwears!So that's how my husband felt in love with me! “On a more positive note. Mike asked me about guitarist's and I faied to mention my main heroes. Django Rheinhardt was a Belgian gypsy,he lived in a traditional gypsy caravan in the early part of the 20th century and as a boy played guitar by the campfire. As he slept one night in his caravan surrounded by the plastic flowers that he sold for a living,a fire erupted and he was badly burned. He lost two fingers on his left hand,they atrophied and were useless. Still he continued to play and invented a new system for a two fingered guitarist.His guitar, a Maccaferri was so hard to play that no one else could do so,yet it was effortless for him,he invented a whole new technique for the guitar and is yet to be bettered,poorly copied maybe, but he spoke with his heart and soul in every note he played. He was a soloist in Le Hot Club De Paris along with the amazing Stephane Grappelli and the like has never been seen or heard since,they were absolute maestros,genius in every note. Django would be booked to play at say The Ritz in Nice or Monte Carlo and would bump into a gypsy friend and disappear for 6 weeks,not play ,then turn up and blow everyone away with his performances. He couldn't read or write,one time in New York he was at a meeting and shown the contract.He said through a translator I don't like clause 7! The promoter said ok I'll see what I can do about that,will you sign? Clause 7 said,All travel and accomodation shall be 5 star with all expenses paid! He died suddenly from a brain aneurism aged 40,but he lived those years ten times over. The other hero still lives and breathes and is why I bought a house in Spain to try and absorb even one iota of this genius. He is Paco de Lucia and he is the living god of guitar. Listen to any of his work it is all sensational,from his flamenco/folk I got hooked on in the early 70's,to his renditions of masterpieces like Concerto de Aranuez,he has everything ,sound,tone,technique,a mastery of the simple and a stunning flawless delivery of the impossible. He is a humble man,a family man ,a genius,a god!”
